2025 NZ Amateur Photography Awards Overview.
I recently entered the 2025 NZ Amateur Photography Awards. This competition is run by NZIPP alongside the Iris Awards.
I submitted eight images, seven images received a Commended Award, and one image received a Highly Commended Award.
The categories were Landscape, Open, Nature, Portrait, Black and White, Photojournalism and Under 18. I entered Landscape and Open.
After entries had closed the images are judged by five judges in each category and the images were given a score out of one hundred. The scores for each image were then averaged to give a final score.
The top twenty-five images in each category then went to a live feedback round with a panel of three judges at the photo show which is being held in Christchurch this year. It was live streamed over YouTube on the 6th of August.
At 5pm on the 6th of August the top three images in each category were announced as well as the top three finalists for NZ Amateur Photographer of the Year. The winner will be announced at the Gala Dinner at the end of the Photo Show on Sunday night.
Scoring Range
95-100 - Gold with Excellence
90 - 94 - Gold
85 - 89 - Silver with Merit
80 - 84 - Silver
70 - 79 - Highly Commended
60 - 69 - Commended
