MacBook Pro: The Ultimate Tool for Photo and Video Editing
I’ve been a windows computer user all my life and since I upgraded my Sony camera body to the Sony A6700 my computer has struggled. There was a couple of reasons for this, the fact that the computer was over five years old and the file size of the raw images from the A6700 is an average of 36mb compared to 24mb from my old camera and also with shooting SLog 3 video in 10 bit 4.2.2 the computer was struggling to render the large video files.
A lot of the advice I was given was don’t buy Apple as they are difficult to use, but instead get a gaming computer. My aging computer is a gaming laptop, so after many hours of research I felt that with the advancement of the Apple M4 chip that a MacBook Pro would be the best computer to suit my needs for photo & video editing.
I decided to purchase the MacBook Pro from the Apple NZ site and selected a 14 inch MacBook Pro with the following: - 512gb hard drive, 32gb of memory, 96w fast charger, three thunderbolt ports, one HDMI port, SD card reader, and a USB-C to Ethernet adapter. The MacBook Pro also has an impressive battery life of up to 24hrs which makes it a truely portable computer.
The MacBook Pro was assembled in an Apple factory in Southwest China and shipped to New Zealand. It took seven days to arrive.
Even though I have owned the MacBook Pro for less than a week, I found the setup to be straight forward, I also own a iPhone 16 which integrates seamlessly with the MacBook Pro. Yes there are differences between Windows and Mac computers, I’m finding it easy to adapt to the new system. The only thing I was disappointed in is that my Razer Basilisk v3 x Hyperspeed mouse is unsupported by Apple. I can still use the mouse but currently don’t have the ability to program the mouse buttons.
When it comes to photo editing I can now use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop together effortlessly without constant freezes and crashes. The MacBook Pro never faulted while editing a 45gb video file in Adobe Premiere Pro.
The images below were edited on the MacBook Pro.
Even though I’ve only owned the MacBook Pro for a short period of time, I’m very happy that I made the change to the MacBook Pro. The more I use it the easier the functions are.
As for photo and video editing it has been a great addition to my workflow and I will now struggle to return to a Windows computer.
